Ms. Lesene is a proud graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Industrial and Organizational Systems. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Human Services, from Fayetteville State University. She also holds Associate in Applied Science Degrees in Office Systems Technology and General Education from James Sprunt Community College and Fayetteville Technical Community College, respectively. In addition to ROMA, she is also credentialed through Temple University’s Strengths Based Family Worker Certification Program. She has been recognized for her academic success as a former participant in the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program (now referred to as the WIOA – Workforce Investment Opportunity Act), a partner she currently utilizes to promote education, employment, and access to resources to program participants. Ms. Lesene is well-known in her community; where she and her late husband co-founded Camp Unity, a summer program that offered tutorial, recreational, and personal development support to at-risk youth and their families. Camp Unity is noted to have decreased the juvenile crime rate in the community for the summer months from 50 to 1 during its tenure. Mrs. Lesene is also a certified credit counselor and member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Golden Jewel #71. Prior to joining ECHSA, Ms. Lesene was employed for over a decade with the Duplin County Board of Elections, a position that provided her with the knowledge of how to read and interpret state and federal law. There, she is remembered for her contributions to the expansion of diversity and inclusion among party, race, and gender within voting precincts as well as the design of the Mega One Stop voting site currently being utilized today. Ms. Lesene contributes her knowledge, expertise, innovation, and drive as CSBG Program Director to her professional and personal life experiences - most specifically to the challenges she once faced as a single mother living in poverty while striving to become self-sufficient. She is the proud mother of two, a son Raheim (HBCU graduate/E-4 Specialist - US Army) and a daughter Dezarae’ (HBCU graduate).
